NEWS - 05/03/2009Radiohead - Special Collectors Editions: Pablo Honey, The Bends and OK ComputerBaby's got The Bends ... plus an additional bonus disc of rarities and live recordings not featured on The Bends.Crud has fond memories of the early 1990s, not least rifling through the racks of CD singles in Broomhill’s notorious bargain goldmine, ‘Record Collector’ housed in the student quarter of Sheffield (and subsequently staffed by various members of Gomez). We remember picking up an early copy of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ for less than a pound. At the time of its first release in ’92 it wasn’t a chart success, a detail that was reflected no doubt in the price we picked it up for. It also came backed by a couple of tunes that didn’t make it on the bells and whistles re-release the following year: a song called ‘Lurgee’ (that made it onto Pablo Honey) and a song called ‘Million Dollar Question’. The biggest surprise, however, wasn’t that it was arguably the first British riposte to Grunge but rather that the funny looking man with the bleached-blonde locks sung, ‘You’re so fucking special’ and not ‘You’re so very special’ as we’d heard on the radio. Anyway, that’s all in the past. Or at least it was until EMI/Capitol decided to re release Radiohead's first three albums as "collectors editions" at the end of the month. And then it all came tumbling back …The deal is quite simple: for each original album you buy you get a second disc of demos, radio sessions, B-sides and live recordings. They also come presented in a lush lift-top box with a bonus DVD of promotional music videos, TV performances and filmed concert performances, as well as a series of postcards.Pablo Honey's "Collectors Edition" features the original album on disc one, and demos, rarities, live performance recordings and a 1992 BBC Radio One session on disc two. The "Special Collectors Edition" DVD adds four promotional music videos, the band's 1993 debut "Top Of The Pops" performance, and nine live recordings from their May 1994 London Astoria concert.The Bends' "Collectors Edition" features the original album on disc one, and EPs with rarities and a 1994 BBC Radio session on disc two. The "Special Collectors Edition" DVD adds five promotional music videos, 1995 and '96 TV performances from "Top Of The Pops," "Later with Jools Holland" and "2 Meter Session," and eight filmed performances from their May 1994 London Astoria concert.OK Computer's "Collectors Edition" features the original album on disc one, and EPs with rarities and live recordings and a 1997 BBC Radio One "Evening Session" performance on disc two. The "Special Collectors Edition" DVD adds three promotional music videos and a May 1997 TV performance from "Later with Jools Holland."The releases are scheduled to go ahead on March 24th.On April 21, Capitol/EMI will also reissue 12 Radiohead EPs on 180-gram vinyl as part of the popular "From The Capitol Vaults" high-quality vinyl series.
